The undefeated world WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder has arranged his seventh title defence for March 31st against Cuba’s seasoned southpaw contender, Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz.
Deontay Wilder boasts one of the most fearsome records in modern day boxing.
‘The Bronze Bomber’s resume reads out 39 victories with 38 of those victories coming by way of knockout, he has also yet to suffer defeat.
Wilder has set his eyes on lucrative clashes with Matchroom fighters Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua.
Wilder was perceived to have missed out on his chance for that lucrative unification bout with Joshua after Eddie Hearn cited excessive demands from Wilder’s team in the early stages of negotiations.
So after Joshua and Parker agreed to unify their world titles, it can be said that Wilder is currently on the outside of the heavyweight picture and looking in right now.
‘The Bronze Bomber’, however, dismissed those suggestions and claims this bout is just a taster or a sample of what is to come.
“This is the build-up and the lead-up to the mega-fight, the unification bout.
“One man will have all of the belts, once and for all.”
Deontay Wilder shared that the goal for all the champions in the heavyweight weight class should unify in the effort of having clarity and a standout undisputed champion for the first time since Lennox Lewis hung up his gloves in 2004.
“The heavyweight division is very special and it’s important for one man to have all the belts.”
“We’re not moving up in weight or going down in weight. We’re staying where we are.”
Furthermore, Wilder shared his view that he views his and Joshua’s upcoming fights as somewhat of a semi-final stage of a knockout tournament.
“This is what makes the fights so exciting between me and Ortiz, between Joshua and Parker.”
“It’s like a tournament. May the best man win.”
“The best two will come together for one special night, one special moment, for the world to see,” Wilder concluded.
