Deontay Wilder is widely expected to reschedule a title defence against Luis Ortiz. They were originally scheduled to take on one another in 2017 but that fell through after Ortiz tested positive for a prohibited substance.
The WBC has admitted since that verdict was a mistake on their part. The WBC ruled that the botched test was simply down to “A lot of people like to compare fights with guys,” Wilder told Yahoo Sports.

“But I only take that so far, because we all know and we always hear that styles make fights and that is so true.”
“Just because a guy was able to do this with this opponent, it doesn’t mean that he will be able to do it with me or the next guy.”
Both fighters have a common opponent in Malik Scott. Wilder knocked out Scott inside one round, on the other hand, Ortiz went the distance with Scott despite dropping him three times, Scott’s lateral movement seemed to offset Ortiz.
“Malik’s style, especially on that night, Malik’s style was a difficult style for Ortiz. Malik was mobile.”
“Ortiz, don’t like nobody to be mobile. He wants somebody to stay right in front of him, he wants somebody to stay right there.”
In case you're keeping track, that's two years in a row. ✌🏿 S/O to @premierboxing for picking me once again for this honor. 👊🏿 #KOOfTheYear#BombZquadpic.twitter.com/CIiJyXldm7

“He’s King Kong, he wants you right there.”
He doesn’t like nobody that has angles, that’s mobile, that’s athletic – he’s never seen nobody like [me]… ever, in his whole career.”
Wilder furthermore also suggested that there is no way to prepare for his style of fighting and getting adequate sparring partners to emulate his style and way of thinking.
“I think that’s going to be the scariest part [for him] in trying to set up camp.
I blessed you the first time, boyyy you better get on your knees tonight because God have blessed you with a second time @kingkongboxing I’m about to whoop your ass and This I PROMISE.#BombZquad#TheRealestChampionInTheBusiness#PBConFS1#WilderOrtizpic.twitter.com/VKCEQTccL4

“Who is they gonna bring to camp to look like me? not only just movement but the speed.”
“He can get the height and the reach, but he cant get the speed and he certainly can’t get the power,” Wilder concluded.
