Deontay Wilder has been speaking about his return to the ring, and is clear on the fight he wants his team to make.
Wilder, the former WBC heavyweight champion, hasn’t stepped inside the ropes since his devastating first round knockout of Robert Helenius last October. It was the statement performance needed coming off the back of two consecutive defeats to Tyson Fury.
The man from Alabama looked all set to face Andy Ruiz Jr when the WBC ordered the fight as a final eliminator for Fury’s belt, but no real moves were made to make it happen.
All the talk around the heavyweight division has moved on to a potential four man tournament with Fury vs Usyk and Wilder vs Joshua fights taking place on the same night. Eddie Hearn, AJ’s promoter, confirmed that the Middle East would like to make that a reality for December.
In an interview with ES News when asked about the rumours and him facing Anthony Joshua, the 37 year-old was clear with his instructions.
“Let’s make it happen”
Asked for his prediction, Wilder is confident of a quick night at the office.
“3 rounds. I can deliver the knockout for Saudi. They haven’t had too much excitement, I will bless him real good.
This fight is going to be real special, I got something special I’m going to put on the punch with this one.”
Joshua recently announced that he wouldn’t be back in action until December, fueling speculation that a big night has been lined up and he couldn’t risk a fight in between.
Hearn later confirmed as much saying the former two-time champion will face either Wilder or Fury at the end of the year, although didn’t completely rule out a July bout in between.
