Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua are both coming off wins over the same man and now The Bronze Bomber has compared their performances against Robert Helenius.
Wilder took on The Nordic Nightmare back in October 2022, while Joshua’s victory came earlier this month. The common opponent was always going to be used as a measuring stick for what might happen if the two finally meet.
If the long discussions of recent months and encouraging comments in the wake of these fights are anything to go by, it could well be the last fight for both heavyweights before they face off in Saudi Arabia at the start of 2024.
Speaking to ESNEWS, Wilder was asked how his fight with Helenius went.
“I won with a first-round knockout.”
Then he was asked to compare that with how Joshua performed:
“He knocked him out in the seventh round.
It ain’t no comparison. There’s just not any comparisons. The world knows that. But a win is a win no matter how it comes, that’s just how we have to look at the situation.”
Wilder then shared plenty of positive thoughts about the much-mooted match-up with Joshua.
“Styles make fights. I have a different style than any other fighter that Joshua ever faced. And he might have the same thing that I would face, so that’s why we have to get in there and see what’s going happen.
I’m looking forward to the time it’s going to happen.”
Wilder then suggested his camp for the fight is imminent.
“Probably this week or next week I will start back the continuance of my training.”
It seems the scene is finally set for one of the biggest fights in world boxing.
