Deontay Wilder has been speaking about the undisputed fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk and has now claimed that he thinks one man ‘was robbed.’
The hugely anticipated showdown between Fury and Usyk saw ‘The Gypsy King’ get his first loss after a back-and-forth fight that was full of drama but also saw him very nearly get put down and out in the ninth round.
He has now forfeited the lineal and WBC titles to Usyk who might now have to do it all again as Fury has revealed that he will indeed trigger the rematch for later in the year, though one British fighter isn’t so sure it will happen.
Fury of course has great history with Wilder after the pair fought out a dramatic trilogy with one draw and two wins for Fury putting an end to their rivalry once and for all.
After the losses Wilder came up with plenty of excuses which were widely derided by the boxing public and now he has taken his chance to have a swipe at his old foe once more.
Speaking to Boxing Social, he was initially asked what he made of the fight.
“I thought it was a great fight. I was on the fence of things, I didn’t know who was going to win. I always think it’s what dog brings what bite to the fight and Oleksandr’s bite was bigger than his.”
He then said he thinks that Usyk was robbed when Fury was not stopped by the referee.
“I think he [Usyk] got robbed in the ninth round of a knockout for sure, gifts, gifts, gifts were given. But at the end of the day he won, big congratulations to him and I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
Wilder said he himself was robbed of a stoppage in the 12th round of his first fight with Fury when Fury rose from the canvas to just about survive the count and then go on to win the rest of the round.
