Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder (39-0, 38 KO) will look to make the seventh defence of his WBC world heavyweight title on March 3rd. He has rescheduled a meeting against the slick and seasoned Cuban southpaw, Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz (28-0, 24 KO).
The pair of heavyweight knockout artists had been originally scheduled to lock horns last year.
However during the testing for the WBC’s clean boxing program, Luis Ortiz tested positive for a prohibited substance. That meant the fight was called off. Bermane Stiverne filled in on short notice as Wilder’s opponent for the original date.

The WBA issued a year long ban to the Cuban and removed him from their rankings following that reveal.
The WBC however, after a period of deliberation decided that the failed test was simply down to blood pressure medication and cleared his name.
The undefeated Cuban, made his return to the ring in December. He blew away journeyman Daniel Martz inside of two rounds on that occasion as he sought to get back in the ring at the earliest possible chance in n effort to shake off the excessive ring rust.

He will now have the chance to finally lock horns with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ in just under seven weeks’ time.
The fight will take place at The Barclays Center in New York, that will be Wilder’s consecutive fight at the venue after he blew away Canadian Bermane Stiverne inside of one round there at the end of November.
Furthermore, it will be Wilder’s third title defence at the venue overall.
This upcoming fight if it does not fall through like last time will represent a real step up in class for the Alabama native.

A step up that fans have been craving as Wilder finally looks to make major noise in the heavyweight division this year as he aims for a lucrative unification showdown with Anthony Joshua as well as addressing an ongoing problem with Dillian Whyte.
Wilder’s heavyweight rival, ‘AJ’ will take on New Zealand’s WBO world heavyweight champion, Joseph Parker on March 31st. Which means with both Wilder and Joshua fighting in March, if both are successful they could be on course for a summer collision.
