Deontay Wilder’s manager, Shelly Finkel, has been speaking about who Deontay might face next in the ring.
Wilder made his comeback from back to back defeats to Tyson Fury last October, with a devastating first round knockout over Robert Helenius.
‘The Bronze Bomber’ had been expected to face Andy Ruiz Jr next after the WBC ordered the fight as a final eliminator for a shot at Fury’s belt. However, conversations have gone quiet and a deal seems as far away as ever.
Another fight that fans expected to be confirmed, if not happened by now, is the undisputed clash between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. Once again, negotiations have stalled, and with apparent disagreements over purse splits, if the fight were to take place at Wembley, fans won’t be holding their breath for an announcement anytime soon.
Out of the ashes of two seemingly nailed on fights has risen the possibility of another mega fight.
Speaking to iD Boxing, Finkel said he would like Wilder to face Usyk next, if the Fury fight fell apart:
“It’s [Fury vs Usyk] good for the sport, it’s good for the sport.
If Fury doesn’t fight Usyk I would like Deontay to.”
That being said, Finkel still thinks there is a chance Ruiz could be next for his man. Asked it that fight is still on the cards, he said:
“I hope so, there are a couple of other things on the plate that we’ve got to clear.”
After yesterdays announcement that Gervonta Davis will fight Ryan Garcia on April 22nd, fans will be hoping this will be a catalyst for more big fights to be made in 2023.
