Derek Chisora has never been one to toe an official line or keep his thoughts to himself and so it has proved again this week as he has allegedly revealed the whopping amount of money Tyson Fury is set to earn for his much-maligned fight with MMA star Francis Ngannou.
The boxing world would much rather have seen WBC and linear heavyweight champion Fury take on Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk for all four of the major world title belts, and even Ngannou understands those frustrations.
After negotiations broke down earlier this year, Fury moved on to this highly lucrative bout with former UFC champion Ngannou, while Usyk is set to defend his WBA, WBO and IBF titles against British challenger Daniel Dubois in Poland on August 26.
Chisora is himself a former Fury victim having lost to the Gypsy King by 10th round stoppage at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in December last year.
Speaking to FightHub TV, Chisora responded to the suggestion that a lot of people have criticised Fury for taking the fight.
“They don’t know how much Tyson’s getting paid, that’s why they criticise him.”
He then dropped the exact amount.
“He’s getting paid $50 mil.”
It is indeed an eye-watering amount of money and not the first time Fury has stepped away from boxing for a big deal. He appeared in the WWE Crown Jewel event, defeating Braun Strowman via count out, back in 2019 and has said he would like to return to wrestling one day.
Fans will be hoping that doesn’t come ahead of huge boxing matches with the likes of Anthony Joshua or Usyk.
