The build-up to Devin Haney’s world title defense against Ryan Garcia continues to be heated as his trainer and father Bill sends a chilling threat to their opponent ahead of the fight.
The last few weeks have been filled with all sorts of verbal and even physical altercations between these two young fighters. There have been disputes over things like ticket prices, fight location, and sparring, with pushing and shoving at press conferences and high-stakes bets also mentioned.
Many onlookers have been worried about the state of Garcia’s mental health as a result while the man himself has denied there is anything wrong though has posted strange videos about his phone being taken from him amongst other things.
Haney and Garcia have fought six times before in the amateurs with both men taking three wins each and now the decider comes at the top level as Garcia gets a first crack at world honours.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Devin’s father Bill Haney issued the ice-cold words at the public workout.
“At first I wanted Devin to beat him now I want him to go kill him, is that cool with you? That’s what I told him to go do, do everything in his power to kill him for all the disrespect. In New York, there ain’t no better place to do legal homicide.”
Comments like this never tend to go down too well no matter what has happened in the build-up.
The fight takes place on Saturday and is available for purchase on DAZN PPV.
