Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia continued to be involved in a heated build-up to their fight on April 20 and now the world champion has claimed in a new face off that ‘King Ry’ is a quitter and that ‘the world watched him take a knee.’
Garcia, who will be the the super-lightweight world title challenger in this fight, has had to respond to concerns about his mental well-being amidst preparations for this bout.
There was a series of unsettling incidents that have seen him admit to smoking weed and drinking, claim his phone has been taken from him, and also lead sparring footage of Haney, complain about ticket prices for the fight and plenty more.
The Haney-Garcia event now faces apprehension as the fight date draws near but Garcia has asserted that he is in good shape and fully committed to the fight even as doubts persist about Garcia’s in light of a social media clip showing him in tears.
In a new face-off shared by DAZN, Haney calls Garcia a quitter in light of his his fight with Gervonta Davis ended back in April last year.
“Styles make fights. I feel like I’m levels above him. He hasn’t fought on that elite level and when he did he quit, whether he likes it or not, the world saw him take a knee. At the end of the day what has he really done on the world level.”
Garcia responded.
“I feel like I was handicapped”
Haney: “You quit though. You have that in you.”
Garcia: “Well see in the ring. I’m not a quitter.”
With just weeks to go the tension is rising between these two which should make for a great fight.
