Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will reportedly face off on April 20, with an official announcement expected soon.
Following his stint as undisputed lightweight champion, Haney vacated his belts and moved up to 140lbs to face Regis Prograis for the WBC title. The 25-year-old challenger knocked ‘Rougarou’ down on his way to a clear unanimous decision victory.
Garcia – after his first career loss to Gervonta Davis in April of last year – also made the official move away from lightweight around the same time. He bounced back from that ‘Tank’ defeat by stopping Oscar Duarte in eighth round of their catchweight contest.
Both fighters made it clear that they wanted to face off next, but some flip-flopping from Garcia had fans believing it was off the table. Talks were re-opened when Garcia focussed his attention back on the champion and, according to Dan Rafael, they have been successful.
The veteran boxing reporter says contracts are now signed for Haney to defend his WBC strap on April 20, broadcast on DAZN PPV with a location yet to be announced.
Have been told that this morning the #HaneyGarcia paperwork was signed by everybody who needed to sign and is NOW done. April 20. Site TBA. DAZN PPV. Official announcement later today. Big fight. #boxing#precise

The pair have shared a rivalry since their amateur days, with six fights between them, according to Garcia at least, ending up three apiece.
