Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia have begun the press tour to promoter their upcoming fight and Haney claims his opponent was drunk and that he could ‘smell it on his breath.’
There is no love lost between these two fighters in the build-up to April 20. They initially started heated exchanges on social media before the contest was signed and sealed, and then that spilled over into a physical altercation when the two met earlier this month.
Since then, Haney has accused Garcia of insulting his religion which Haney denied, and Garcia has expressed his anger at their fight taking place at the Barclays Centre in New York rather than in Las Vegas.
The pair have known each other many years, first meeting in the amateurs where they fought one another six times, with three wins each coming out of that.
Now Haney has accused Garcia of being drunk when the pair came face to face yesterday. Garcia responded in animated fashion as captured by FightHype.
“Hey guess what I’ll drink a beer and beat the f*** out of you.”
Haney was then asked about the confrontation.
“Ryan was at the m*****f****** press conference drunk as a skunk. Hopefully he get it together before April 20th and I’m gunna have him punch drunk on the day.”
He then claimed Garcia and his team are trying to shift the fight date to May 4, when Canelo traditionally fights.
“Ryan is trying to get the fight moved to a later date in Las Vegas. We can’t do it, what is he talking about?”
