Dillian Whyte is back in the mix following an almost year-long battle to clear his name after a failed drug test and now he’s being called out by the trainer of a number-one-ranked heavyweight.
Whyte made his first return to the ring back in March when he took on Christian Hammer in Ireland. Whyte stopped his opponent to end a long spell on the sidelines which started in the days before his ill-fated fight with Anthony Joshua last August.
Before that, he had fought just about everyone in the division from Derek Chisora to Joseph Parker, Tyson Fury to Alexander Povetkin, though has never managed to lift a world title.
Now he has been called out by a vocal trainer, Billy Nelson, on behalf of his charge Martin Bakole. Bakole has often struggled to get the big fights but last time out he stopped Carlos Takam on the Fury vs. Francis Ngannou card in Saudi Arabia in October.
Now, speaking to Boxing Social, Nelson has pleaded with Whtye to get in the ring with his man.
Please, please, tell Dillian Whyte’s people to get in touch with us. We’ll fight him in a heartbeat. Get that fight on in summer, no problem, No problem, Joe Joyce, easy, easy fight, a good fight, a hard fight, but Martin will do what Martin does.”
He was then asked how the fight with Whyte would go.
“If Dillian Whyte wants to stand in the middle of the ring with him, he’ll knock him out. If he wants to box him, Martin will outbox him with speed, skill, movement.”
Bakole caused controversy last week when he leaked sparring footage of him and Joyce.
