As he preps for a ring return, Dillian Whyte has addressed man-of-the-moment, Joe Joyce, saying that he has the power to knock him out.
Amidst plenty of justified praise for Joyce’s ability to walk through punches – and to keep throwing them back – boxing fans have been discussing the possibility of any heavyweight having the power to stop ‘The Juggernaut.’
Answers and theories are mixed, but for one man there’s no doubt. Whyte spoke to Sky Sports about his chances against Joyce.
“Joe Joyce is a good fighter. He’s a strong guy. He takes a lot of punches but, it’s like this, some of these guys with great chins, one night it just comes – boom – and it’s gone like that. And I believe I carry power to knock anyone out on this planet. I just got to land the punch, and I land the punch I can take anyone of these guys out. Joe Joyce is the same.
I don’t need to just target his head, I’ll target his body and his head. I won’t just do like what Parker did – good in spurts but he was in spurts. I’m a warrior. I’m a fighter. I’m not going to go in the ring and just back up or keep running back. No, I’m gonna go and throw hands.”
‘The Bodysnatcher’ certainly has some highlight knockouts on his record – most the result of a devastating left hook. In the other corner, though, Joyce has taken huge bombs from big men, including Joseph Parker on Saturday night.
It’s not recency bias to say that ‘The Juggernaut’ has one of the best chin in the business. The simple fact is that he’s proved it by never being down or troubled in 15 professional heavyweight fights. That, paired with his reported 5X bone density compared to the average human, surely makes it fact.
Perhaps the two Brits will face off and put the matter to bed. Both seem to be looking for opponents, and it would be a fight fans would undoubtedly turn up for to see this matter settled once and for all.
