Dillian Whyte wants to make his boxing return in November with a ‘big fight’.
Whyte, who has not fought since he was stopped in the sixth round by WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, told Sky Sports:
“I’m looking to come back in November in a big fight.”
Speaking as to whom his November opponent might be, Whyte added:
“We have a lot of offers on the table at the minute. Obviously, there’s lots of fights there.”
“There’s Joshua-Usyk, I’d love to fight [Deontay] Wilder, I’d love to have another go at Tyson Fury again.”
“Joe Joyce is there, there’s Daniel Dubois.”
But with Joshua-Usyk happening in a matter of days and Joe Joyce fighting Joseph Parker in September and Wilder set to face Robert Helenius in October, a return contest against any of those seems unlikely.
Likewise a bout against Tyson Fury, who once again announced his retirement on 12 August.
Though Whyte would still relish another opportunity against the Gypsy King, given the alleged illegitimacy of the way in which he believes that the first fight finished:
“I got caught with a good shot, I was definitely dazed, and he pushed me over and I fell over, and tore a ligament in my ankle.”
“The bell went after the knockdown; they shouldn’t have stopped the fight. They should give you a chance to go to your corner.”
Somewhat ironically, Whyte then added:
“I’m not a moaner, I’m a warrior.”
Be that as it may, when pushed as to which opponent he would prefer to fight out of those listed, Whyte was unequivocal:
“My main focus is to get back at Anthony Joshua.”
“I’d love to have another fight with him and settle the score.”
“Hopefully he gets the job done against Usyk and I get another chance to fight him again.”
A fight against Joshua would be the deciding third in their ongoing fistic rivalry. Whyte won the first, an amateur contest which took place in 2009.
Joshua won the second, stopping Whyte in 2015 to become the British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion. Depending on the outcome of Saturday night, the third may just be for the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight championships of the world.
