Little has been heard from Dillian Whyte or his camp since his fight with Anthony Joshua back in August 2023 was canned last minute due to adverse findings in one of his drug tests, but now his trainer has provided an update on the situation.
Whyte is a staple of the British heavyweight scene, but has had numerous run-ins of this sort in his career. He served a two-year ban early on when he tested positive for a banned stimulate – which had come from a pre-workout drink – in 2012.
He then underwent some controversy around findings in a test ahead of his fight with Oscar Rivas in June 2019. The contest went ahead and Whyte won on points, and he was later cleared by UKAD of no wrongdoing.
Whyte’s current coach, Buddy McGirt, has now said he expects his man to return this year in an interview with Boxing Scene.
“Dil is not going to go out like that. He’s not going to do that. As of right now we talk on the phone, but we don’t talk about boxing. We just crack jokes. We talk about everybody and anybody but we don’t talk about boxing.”
Whyte’s last contest was a majority decision points win against Jermaine Franklin in November 2022, and right now he still has a long road back to the top ahead of him.
