Dmitry Bivol is quickly garnering a reputation as one of the most fearsome and ferocious competitors in world boxing.
Many believe in the Russian that the light heavyweight division has all the tools at his disposal to pick up where Andre Ward left off before announcing his retirement last year.
Many hold the growing belief that he will the next divisional kingpin at the weight of 175 lbs.
Bivol improved his record to 13-0 this past weekend, recording the eleventh stoppage of his career at the expense of the seasoned and proven Sullivan Barrera.
Barrera went the distance with Andre Ward at the height of his powers. But, he suffered a stoppage at the hands of Bivol in the tenth round.
Bivol has now touched on his plans to look to cement his position as the number one light-heavyweight in world boxing.
“I’ve got the goods to be the best Light-Heavyweight in the world, but I’ve got a lot of work to do to be the best in the division.”
“I have to fight the best in the division and prove I’m the best,” the WBA World Champion said.
“You can be the best only when you fight the best.”
A highly anticipated matchup moving forward would, of course, be to see Dmitry Bivol lock horns with his fellow countryman Sergey Kovalev in a WBA, WBO world light-heavyweight title unification.
Bivol shared his view that he is not to fussed over what lies next for him. Bivol claimed
“I’m not going to attack anybody.”
“I have a belt, whoever wants it can come and get it.”
The former unified world light-heavyweight champion Kovalev headlined Saturday’s card.
He successfully defended his WBO belt with a stoppage victory over Igor Mikhalkin.
He shared that he would like to return to elite level matchups and says he would have no problems in taking on Dmitry Bivol.
“To make a fight against Bivol, no problem. I don’t feel any problem [making fights] with any fighters,” Kovalev said during his post-fight press conference.
