Boxing Social will be streaming live coverage of the vacant British super featherweight title fight between the undefeated, hard punching prospect Sam Bowen and the experienced battler Maxi Hughes from the King Power Stadium in Leicester this Saturday April 14th.
It’s an excellent matchup between good southpaw boxer Hughes and aggressive puncher Bowen for the title vacated by Commonwealth, and European champion Martin J. Ward. It should be an action-packed affair.
Hughes has won 18 of his 23 contests with only two men having beaten the skillful Yorkshire man. Scott Cardle edged him out on points over ten rounds five years ago. He had three fights with Martin J. Ward where he managed a draw in their first encounter before losing by retirement in five rounds in April 2015. In March last year, he fought him again for the British title but lost on points over the 12 round distance.
The much avoided Sam Bowen, nicknamed the bullet, finally gets his chance for major honours on the back of 12 straight wins, eight coming inside schedule, since he turned professional three years ago, after a very impressive amateur career and he looks one to watch.
Fitness fanatic Bowen has been guided well by manager and trainer Carl Greaves, who has been left frustrated by the difficulty in matching the all-action man from Ibstock, Leicestershire and will be looking to move Bowen along quickly should he come through this difficult test against Hughes.
The super featherweight division is very strong domestically and Bowen even has a rival in Leicester with undefeated Lyon Woodstock Jr holding the Midlands area title. Zelfa Barrett is the English champion and Martin J. Ward defends his European crown against capable Belfast man James Tennyson on May 5th.
First, however…
Bowen must get his hands on the coveted Lord Lonsdale belt and that British title. Southpaw stylist Hughes will make it tough in what looks to be a cracking contest, so please join us on Boxing Social for a terrific night of live championship boxing.
