One of the most significant fights of 2020 takes place in Munich on Saturday night when Yuniel Dorticos and Mairis Briedis clash in the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight final.
After repeated delays due to the interference of the Covid-19 Pandemic, IBF cruiserweight champion Yuniel Dorticos (24-1, 22 KOs) will finally earn his chance to win the Muhammad Ali Trophy, having lost to Murat Gassiev (LTKO12) in the semi-finals of WBSS Season 1 in February 2018.
The Miami-based Cuban and his entourage arrived in Munich on Sunday as the ‘KO Doctor’ seeks to establish himself as the premier fighter in the division.
“The trip went smoothly,” said Dorticos on arrival at Franz Josef Strauss Airport. “I am happy to have finally arrived in Munich and I can’t wait for Saturday night to come. I can fight anywhere and I [have] loved every second of fighting all over the world.
“I’m very honoured and humbled to be fighting for the Muhammad Ali Trophy, here in Munich. I’m going to dedicate it to his memory by winning it and go down in history. I’m going to bring [back] the Muhammad Ali Trophy, Ring Magazine Belt and my IBF belt to Miami!”
The WBSS Season 2 cruiserweight final against Latvian Briedis (26-1, 19 KOs) will take place behind closed doors at the Plazamedia Broadcasting Center in Munich, and shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.
