The future for Daniel Dubois looks promising following a successful link-up with Shane McGuigan and a title shot on the horizon but his loss to Joe Joyce is something he still carries with him.
Dubois was in Cardiff to watch his sister Caroline prepare for her professional debut on the Chris Eubank Jr-Liam Williams card this Saturday. Her 24-year-old brother will challenge WBA Regular heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan this year but a rematch with Joyce is still in the plans for ‘Dynamite’.
“That will always be in my mind,” he told Boxing Social’s Andi Purewal.
Dubois and Joyce collided in November 2020. On paper it looked like a clash between the unstoppable force and the immovable object but Joyce’s boxing skills, particularly his jab, wore down his opponent forcing a knockout win in the 10th round. Dubois received a fractured eye socket and suffered his first professional loss after 15 wins.
“I wanna rematch him,” said Dubois.
“I wanna wipe the slate clean and do it over again really. I’ve improved and I need to show it and right the wrong. Hopefully it happens.”
Since the Joyce defeat Dubois has won two on the bounce and put himself into the mandatory position for Bryan’s title. Joyce is currently the WBO number one contender and is aiming for a shot at Oleksandr Usyk but somewhere down the line you can imagine Dubois and Joyce’s promoter Frank Warren finding a way to make the sequel happen.
