Eddie Hearn hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez facing Conor McGregor – in fact he’s tempted to reach out to UFC president Dana White about it.
McGregor and Canelo have been involved in a recent back and forth online after the Irishman claimed he would fight the Mexican ‘no f**king problem’.
The super-middleweight undisputed champion responded saying he would beat the mixed martial arts star with ‘with one hand’. Never one to let someone else have the last word, McGregor said he would beat the ‘ginger sausage with no hands’.
“Canelo you little ginger sausage. I’d beat you with NO HANDS. Don’t forget.”
The two actually have one common opponent in Floyd Mayweather and they both suffered the same fate at the hands of the American.
Mayweather handed Canelo his first career defeat back in 2013 by majority decision. McGregor didn’t last as long, getting stopped in the 10th round in a clash billed as ‘The Money Fight’.
Speaking to Boxing Social about a potential Canelo-McGregor contest, Hearn admitted the fight would be ‘massive’ and might reach out to White about it.
“I nearly reached out to Eddy Reynoso and Saul [Canelo] about it and Dana White.
Listen if the money’s there. I nearly messaged Dana, maybe I will after this interview. I mean they’ve done Floyd against McGregor, they saw how big that was. With Saul, you’ve got that whole Hispanic fanbase, you’ve got McGregor’s fanbase. I mean it’s massive, but who knows.”
For now, Canelo seems focused on one goal, getting revenge against Dmitry Bivol. He’s made it clear that’s the fight he wants and is intent on running it back on the same terms as their first encounter – at 175lbs.
