It seems Conor Benn and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, are on the same page when it comes to who the Brit should face next.
Much has been made of Benn’s next opponent, with Manny Pacquiao seeming the most likely option in recent weeks, but it seems now that Chris Eubank Jr is the man they both want.
Eubank and Benn were on course to fight last October before news broke of Benn’s failed VADA drugs tests.
The WBC have since ruled that they found no evidence of ‘intentional ingestion’ which has seen Benn return to their world rankings and clear the path for his comeback – albeit overseas.
Benn had already made it clear that Eubank Jr was the one he wanted for his return, taking to instagram to share a photo of the two with the caption ‘the one I want next.’
Hearn had previously stated that the Pacquiao fight would be ‘watched by every f**king person’ but now also seems to want try again for the Eubank clash.
Speaking to iD Boxing, Hearn said:
“We’ve been in negotiations and talks with Manny Pacquiao and they clearly want that fight, they’re on every day. Kell Brook wants that fight but I just feel like the Kell Brook fight is a UK fight which won’t be next.
I’d like him to fight Chris Eubank. I just feel there is a lot of unfinished business there, last time was a family legacy fight, now it’s just pure hatred, it’s a massive fight.
I’d like to be in a position to finalise Conor Benn’s fight this week.”
Eubank Jr had been expected to face Liam Smith in a rematch next, having been stopped by the Liverpudlian for the first time in his career at the start of the year.
But with the lure of a bigger pay day and potentially what he might see as an easier opponent, fans might see that family trilogy after all.
