Eddie Hearn discusses Povetkin vs Price addition to Joshua bill – “Britain versus Russia”

Eddie Hearn caught up with Boxing Social again today. The Matchroom mogul briefly discussed the addition of David Price vs Alexander Povetkin on the undercard of the Joshua vs Parker world heavyweight title unification.

Following today’s weigh-ins for the ‘British Beef’ clash this Saturday night, Hearn discussed the upcoming heavyweight scrap in detail.

“Don’t blink! I think David Price is due a bit of luck and it’s a very tough fight.”

“You have to ask yourself can Price beat Povetkin? The answer is yes, he can knock him out,” Hearn added.

“He has the power to do it. Povetkin against Hammer… Hammer couldn’t win the fight.”

“Couldn’t knock him out, couldn’t outbox him so Price is a massive underdog in this fight but he can win.”

“If they trade and he hits him on the chin he will knock Povetkin out.”

“This fight will give British fight fans chance to see Povetkin up close because he’s gonna fight Joshua if he wins.”

“We, team Joshua, will get a chance to see him up close as well. It’s a big heavyweight fight. I can’t say I’m over the moon about it. The bottom line is he’s going to be mandatory for Anthony Joshua.”

“I’m not a governing body. I don’t ban fighters. I don’t put them on suspension.”

“He’s not suspended by any governing body or any commission worldwide.”

“So if Joshua doesn’t fight him, he’s going to get stripped. We have to fight him.”

“Sooner or later he’s gonna come to the UK to fight.”

“I’d rather get him here now and have a look at him.”

“He becomes a big force in the division. He becomes number one in the WBA rankings, becomes number one in the WBO but he doesn’t become mandatory because he hasn’t been called.”

“If he loses he’s just where he is now but if he wins, he’s absolutely cracked it.”

“Britain versus Russia, it’s good fun,” Hearn concluded.
