Eddie Hearn has bit back at radio host Simon Jordan, claiming the former Crystal Palace owner “needs” to be involved in back and forth with “big names” like himself.
Jordan had been critical of the content on the streaming service DAZN in a recent interview, claiming the boxing currently on offer was below par.
In an interview with ID Boxing, Hearn said that Jordan was entitled to his opinion, but was quick to jump to the defence of DAZN.
“People like Simon Jordan need conflicts with big names. I find it quite flattering that he calls me out, that’s his claim to fame at the moment – have a go at Eddie Hearn.
“The DAZN content is fantastic as is the schedule coming up, but Simon’s entitled to his opinion.”
“He’s the new boxing expert on Talksport, and I’m sure I’ll be seeing him again soon.”
The prevalence of “crossover” boxing on the platform, through their partnership with Misfits, has drawn criticism from fans of the traditional sport.
UK fans in particular have been quick to voice their displeasure, with some even feeling Matchroom have fallen behind the likes of Queensberry and Boxxer domestically over the past twelve months.
The announcement of a “tag team” fight on an upcoming Misfits cards has drawn a fresh bout of discontent from some subscribers, with even Hearn struggling to defend the concept.
The domestic schedule does look set to improve in the coming months, as an announcement on Anthony Joshua’s comeback looks imminent as well as a homecoming fight in Ireland for national hero Katie Taylor – potentially against former foe Amanda Serrano.
