The wait for Conor Benn’s next opponent goes on but now Eddie Hearn has revealed the shortlist is ‘down to four.’
Benn has called out plenty of names in and around his division so far this year, some are red hot champions and others are almost retired veterans.
The closest he came to official negotiations with one was Gervonta Davis, who initially seemed keen in a fight after lots of verbal back and forth online, but as soon as an informal discussion of money took place he instead agreed to fight Frank Martin.
Benn is still looking to get his license back to fight under the auspices of the British Boxing Board of Control having lost it following two failed drug tests ahead of his fight with Chris Eubank Jnr back in October 2022
Speaking to IFL TV, Hearn has been asked how he is getting on with Benn’s next opponent, and revealed there are now just four names on the list.
“Good actually, Conor was in yesterday. From about 20 fighters that have called him out we have really targeted, I think we’re down to four.”
At some point in the next week to two weeks we’re waiting for the decision on the appeal and if he wins the appeal which we think he will then he will fight in the UK on pay-per-view.
“I’m not going to tell you the list of four, one is a huge, huge name, one of the greatest of our generation, another is a massive stadium fight, another could be a fight for the welterweight title, and the other one is a former two-division world champion, big name, so Conor is going to be in a massive fight next.”
It seems a lot rests on the outcome of the hearing.
