Eddie Hearn has spoken this week about the recent incident involving UFC president, Dana White.
Whilst appearing on the DAZN Boxing Show, Hearn was hesitant to delve too deep on the video that circulated of White, instead speaking only of the positive personal relationship he has enjoyed with the American.
Footage obtained by TMZ showed White slapping his wife on New Years Eve in a crowded Cabo San Lucas nightclub.
“The problem is, it’s his private life but in public. I’ve always got on very well with Dana, he’s always been a gentleman to me. Everyone’s got their own battles to go through.”
“God bless everybody.”
The UFC boss has come under heavy criticism as a result of the images and has faced calls to resign from his post.
Having been a vocal detractor of former UFC fighters who had faced domestic abuse allegations, White did not attempt to play down the incident when pressed by TMZ.
“You’ve heard me say for years, ‘There’s never ever an excuse for a guy to put his hands on a woman,’ and now here I am on TMZ talking about it.”
His wife, Anne, insisted the pair had moved past the night’s events and attributed alcohol as the main factor.
“Dana and I have been married for almost 30 years. To say this is out of character for him is an understatement — nothing like this has ever happened before.”
“Unfortunately, we were both drinking too much on New Year’s Eve and things got out of control, on both sides. We’ve talked this through as a family and apologised to each other.”
“I just hope people will respect our privacy for the sake of our kids.”
UFC’s parent company, Endeavour, is yet to make a comment.
