Eddie Hearn today sensationally hinted that Canelo Alvarez’ next fight could be in London – depended on this weekend’s all British super middleweight clash between Zach Parker and John Ryder.
Hearn told Boxing Social that Ryder would be a front runner for a mega money fight with Canelo if he overcomes Parker at the 02 Arena on Saturday night, with Arsenal FC’s Emirates stadium a potential venue if the Mexican was to make the trip to British shores.
The Matchroom boss, however, was quick to emphasise the Parker fight posed a significant challenge for Ryder and all this would be just talk if ‘The Gorilla’ was on the wrong end of the result.
“I think John deserves one of those big fights. He beat Danny Jacobs, Zach Parker’s a very good super middleweight as well. If John comes through, which I believe he will, I’d love to push that fight with Canelo Alvarez.”
“Maybe we’d do that at the Emirates. He’s a big Arsenal fan, John, so that’d be a dream come true, and to bring Canelo Alvarez to the UK would be fantastic as well.”
“But it’s a tough fight on Saturday, so let’s get through that, sit down with Eddie Reynoso and see what next.”
Canelo is expected to return to action in May of next year, after telling media earlier this year he would be taking time out to recover from a hand injury after his trilogy bout with long term foe Gennadiy Golovkin in September.
Although a rematch with Dmitri Bivol is thought to be a likely fight for the pay-per-view star next year, it is believed Canelo will have one fight before stepping back in with the Russian.
