Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hearn, believes Tyson Fury will only be facing one man this year.
Reports broke earlier today that Fury’s team was in talks with undefeated Australian heavyweight, Demsey McKean, for a potential stadium bout Down Under.
However, in an interview with iFL TV, Hearn rubbished these rumours and believes the only fight that can fulfil Fury’s financial demands is against Oleksandr Usyk in December.
“It’s absolute rubbish. Tyson Fury isn’t fighting in Australia. He goes over to the press conference [for the Joseph Parker vs Faiga Opelu fight] and listen he’s an entertainer, so he wants to get everyone excited and everyone talking, but he isn’t fighting in Australia next.
I don’t see Tyson Fury taking any other fight this year other than Oleksandr Usyk in December because the money that he wants is just not achievable in any other fight.
We’ll see but I wouldn’t expect to see him fighting Down Under anytime soon. But Demsey McKean would snap your hand off for it, he’s crying out for a big fight and we are close to making Demsey McKean against Filip Hrgovic, but at the same time he’s just desperate for a big fight and he would jump at Tyson Fury.”
Fury and Usyk had looked set to battle it out earlier in the year to crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. But talks broke down over rematch financials and the Ukrainian moved on to negotiations with WBA mandatory, Daniel Dubois, whilst ‘The Gypsy King’ has made no secret of his frustration in trying to secure a summer opponent.
Saudi Arabia have ambitious plans for the heavyweight division this December. Negotiations are underway for Fury to take on Usyk and Anthony Joshua to square off against Deontay Wilder on the same night – but this is boxing so fans won’t get too excited just yet.
