Eddie Hearn has entered the debate on who wins between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis – one which thankfully looks to to be settled early next year.
Public back and forths about a fight went quiet between the two young American fighters, which usually means one of two things – work is going on behind the scenes, or the talking has stopped entirely. It was the former, and a statement from Garcia, Davis, and both broadcasters involved dropped out of nowhere.
‘KingRy’ and ‘Garcia’ are set to face on April 15 2023 in Las Vegas at a catchweight of 136lb. Despite both having fights between now and then, fans can finally get excited that one of the most sought after bouts in boxing is unfolding.
Hearn, who hasn’t got a stake in the fight but will be watching all the same, made his prediction on a recent Instagram Live session.
“Tank v Ryan prediction. I’ll go for… Do you know what, I actually rate Ryan Garcia more than I used to. I think he’s a very good fighter, but I do think Tank is a special fighter. I think he wins that.”
Both men will enter the fight undefeated, with 44 knockouts between them – 25 of those coming from Davis. Fans are split on who wins, with some pointing to Garcia’s size as the deciding factor whilst others believe ‘Tank’s experience and power will finish the job.
Hearn, who has expressed an interest in signing Davis in the past, clearly sides with the latter camp.
Whatever happens, the Vegas event will be a spectacle. Both parties have a host of celebrity fans as well as huge followings in general, there seems to be genuine animosity, and the winner will be in prime position to challenge for a world title next.
