Eddie Hearn has weighed in with a prediction for this weekend’s monster undisputed welterweight clash between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford.
The pair will lock horns at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF 147lb world titles, in what is one of the most significant fights of the decade.
Speaking to SecondsOut, Hearn revealed he is backing betting favourite Crawford to win, and believes he could even force a stoppage.
“Great fight, I am going for a Terence Crawford stoppage.
I think they are both unbelievable. I just look at two things. Number one, I think Errol has had more wear and tear over the years, from the car crash and from tough fights. I also think Terence Crawford is unbelievably mentally strong in fights. He’s a little bit of a sicko going into fights.
I’m not sure if he stops him, but I think he wins and I think he could stop him. Sometimes you make these big fights, and they’re cagey for six or seven rounds and it might be like that.”
But if it catches fire early, I think he’ll stop him.”
WBC, WBA and IBF champion Spence and WBO belt holder Crawford are both regarded as top ten pound for pound fighters at least, and whoever leaves Las Vegas with all four belts this weekend will have staked as strong a claim as anyone for number one in the entire sport.
A two way contractual rematch clause is reportedly in place, therefore fight fans can potentially expect to see a second dose of action between the pair before the end of this calendar year, depending on how this initial clash plays out.
