Eddie Hearn has responded to John Fury’s comments that his heavyweight superstar, Anthony Joshua, would be better served by another promotoer.
The elder Fury told Boxing Social recently that Joshua should leave Hearn if he wanted to make good money – calling the businessman a ‘w***er.’
Hearn brushed off the idea to Pro Boxing Fans before joking about Fury’s antics in Dubai in which he took his top off and threatened to fight Jake Paul – who was ringside – in a bareknuckle fight.
“I think the day that I start taking advice or listening to what John Fury says could be a very sad day for my career and my business… But I’ll take my shirt off anyway – hold me back!”
Hearn has worked with Joshua since he turned pro after his Olympic Gold Medal, and, by all accounts, helped him become a superstar.
Fury, though, is convinced that ‘AJ’s biggest payday will continue to be out of reach with Hearn in his corner, because he’s adamant that his son, Tyson, won’t be open to a deal on those terms.
The pair came agonisingly close to a fight last year before talks collapsed publicly and with blame thrown from both sides.
Even if talks were open for the all-British bout, it would be a long way off.
Joshua is currently preparing for a comeback fight against America’s Jermaine Franklin on April 1, out in Texas training with new coach, Derrick James.
As for Tyson Fury, there’s the small matter of becoming undisputed heavyweight champion – a well-documented goal of Joshua’s – against Oleksandr Usyk.
Whilst the fight has still not been announced, recent hints from promoter Frank Warren say that could all change this week.
