Eddie Hearn has sent a heartfelt message to Kell Brook following the former fighter’s statement of mental health struggles in response to a video leak.
Brook was caught on camera in his home sniffing white powder, and the clip was subsequently obtained and released by a tabloid newspaper. It comes amidst talk of a ring return after finding himself ‘struggling’ without the demanding schedule of top-level professional boxing.
He recently released an apology in which he said he was seeking help.
Hearn, who promoted the former welterweight world champion for a large part of his career, has wished him the best, as captured by Boxing Social.
“I don’t want to talk about fighters personal lives, but Kell Brook is a fighter that walks away from the sport and has the big hole in his life when you leave boxing or you leave something you love. Boxing has been Kell Brook’s life for years and years, and when that buzz leaves you, you can put yourself in a difficult place mentally.”
“One thing I’ll tell you about Kell Brook is he’s a good person with a huge heart – and we should all support him. His family should and will support him, of course. Boxing should support him.
I’m sure that he’ll be back on the horse. Like I said, he’s a good man and he’s always had a good heart. He loves the sport and, listen, maybe you’ll see him return to the sport.
But most of all, we hope that he’s happy”
Brook hung up the gloves in 2022 after a long-awaited victory over domestic rival, Amir Khan. His pro career spanned 18 years with 40 wins and only three losses to the very elite.
Before this video and the subsequent statement, it appeared that the fighter was readying a ring return to face either Liam Smith, Chris Eubank Jr, or Conor Benn.
