Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has gunned for Ryan Garcia following his erratic behaviour since testing positive for Ostarine in the aftermath of his career-best win over Devin Haney last month, an incident that ‘King Ry’ believes to be a ‘set-up’.
Ryan Garcia upset the odds with a phenomenal victory over the previously undefeated WBC super-lightweight champion around four weeks ago but the win was tainted when positive drugs test were uncovered shortly after.
During the build-up to the contest, Garcia voiced his opinions on a variety of outlandish conspiracies and has been no different since news of his test results, believing this to be a conspiracy of its own as a result of his previous comments.
Upon revealing that he would be in attendance at the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight week, Garcia threatened to punch Hearn, believing the Briton to have played a role in the suspicious analytical findings (or lack of) due to his position as Haney’s promote, he told The Stomping Ground.
“Nah, he is against me. I don’t like him. I don’t like him at all. If I see him, I’m going to punch him in the face.”
“This week, I am going to punch him in the face”
Hearn and Garcia did cross paths in Riyadh but there was no consequent violence, instead it was Hearn who fumed at Garcia for acting different in person compared to how he acts on the internet, revealing the conversation that the pair shared in an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.
“He was off again [Sunday] night on Twitter, like just the most stupid, childish behaviour.
“But again, similar to some people, [he gets] face-to-face and it’s like, ‘You can come up, give me a cuddle, let’s have a photo.’ I don’t like [that]. I’m someone that will really do my best to avoid confrontation. Yeah? Peaceful life is always better. But sometimes this guy acts like an idiot, you know? And I like Ryan Garcia.
“I’ve said to him, I actually said to him in Saudi Arabia, ‘You do realize, if you actually listen to every interview that I give, I say I really hope that Ryan is innocent. I actually even give him the benefit of the doubt.’
“But I even said to him face to face, ‘You can’t just say it’s a conspiracy theory.’ I said, ‘You’re blaming me for you testing positive twice.’ ‘Well, someone set me up,’ he said. Well, firstly, no, they didn’t. And secondly, it definitely wasn’t me. So just be careful what you say and let’s just try and deal with this situation.”
As of now, tests are ongoing as Ryan Garcia hopes to hold on to his famous win over Haney – who in turn is keeping his fingers crossed for his undefeated record to be reinstated. Meanwhile, Garcia has continued to go viral on the internet since news of the test, most recently being seen bizarrely rapping with an orangutan in his car.
