Edgar Berlanga has been very vocal about his desire to take on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and has sent a message to his potential future opponent ahead of any possible fight.
Berlanga is super-middleweight star who won his first 16 fights by knockout. After taking a few of his next wins on points he was back in emphatic fashion recently when he stopped the previously undefeated Irishman Padraig McCrory with a big right hand.
The Puerto Rican’s record now sits at 22 and 0 with 17 knockouts. The fight ended in the sixth round at the Caribe Hotel in Florida on February 24 and straight after ‘The Chosen One’ declared that he wanted to take on the multi-weight champion Canelo next.
Now the man himself has responded with a post on social media declaring once again that he is ready for Canelo whenever.
“The boxing world has to stop taking words out of context especially on my team !!!!!! Tired of y’all sh*t !!! We been ready for Canelo and we are now the mandatory. Puerto Rico vs Mexico is the biggest fight to be made this year !!! 🇵🇷🇲🇽 Canelo x Berlanga”
Right now, Canelo is fully focused on his fight with Jaime Munguia on Cinco de Mayo weekend in May, with the two fighters recently going head to head at their launch press conference to announce the fight.
If Alvarez is successful in that bout, it means a potential showdown against Berlanga could take place later this year, while showdowns against the likes of David Benavidez and Terence Crawford are also still being touted.
