Sunny Edwards has had a few weeks to recover from his bruising encounter with Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez and has now been talking about what he perceives to be the “easy graft” of the matchmaking at Sky Sports.
Back in December, Edwards put his belt on the line and stepped up to face one of the toughest opponents in his division. He headed to Arizona full of confidence but was broken down by Rodriguez before being knocked down big at the end of the ninth round.
He managed to survive but with a deep gash over his right eye and a closing left eye, his corner stopped the fight in the ninth and ‘Bam’ unified the WBO and IBF flyweight titles.
Speaking to Boxing Social, he has now been talking about other fighters, in particular Ishmael Davies versus Troy Williamson.
“They’re grateful for Matchroom to give both fighters the opportunity. The winner pushes on and gets another fight, that’s how it going right now. “
He then went on to speak about the value of the best facing the best and had a dig at boxers on Sky who he thinks get an easy route.
“And it needs to be [this way] ’cause then at least in five years if all the fighters do that, take a fight, win, take another fight, at least the storylines will be familiar. All the fighters who want easy fights need not apply. If you want easy graft, go to Sky.”
Sunny has never been afraid to speak his mind, and these latest comments are sure to spark a reaction from his rival broadcaster.
