Errol Spence has provided the latest update in negotiations for an undisputed welterweight world title fight with Terence Crawford – and it’s good news for boxing fans.
Although the pair have long been considered the two best fighters in the division, an all American showdown has not managed to materialise as of yet.
However, recent report have suggested a deal is close to being finalised and, in a recent interview with ESNews, Spence went as far to say the fight is “definitely” going to happen.
“Me and Crawford talk once every two weeks, just trying to get everything together so we can fight.”
“It’s definitely going to happen. It’s taken some time, but it’s going to happen.”
Spence’s comments will come as music to the ears of the boxing public, who have grown tired of seeing the two elite welterweights face second class opposition instead of locking horns and crowning a consensus number one in the division.
After years of failed negotiations, playing the blame game and causing boxing fans to pull their hair out, Spence and Crawford look set to finally settle their differences and, more importantly, establish who the best 147lber on the planet is.
With both men having now entered their mid thirties, fans across the world were losing hope that the undisputed fight would ever take place, especially given the promotional barriers that have always seemed to divide the two.
However, social media went into meltdown last month when reports emerged that a deal, that would see Spence and Crawford finally meet in Las Vegas, was close to being finalised.
