Errol Spence Jr. & Jermell Charlo’s War of Words Continues

Errol Spence Jr. may have been in the Fight Capital of the World to confirm his long-awaited return to the ring on July 25, against Tim Tszyu in Australia, but he made no bones about who might be next — Jermell Charlo.

They’ve known about one another for years, going back to when Spence came up in the Maple Avenue Boxing Gym while Charlo boxed under Savannah — both thriving fight clubs in the bubbling Texan boxing scene. Al Haymon, through Premier Boxing Champions, managed both of their careers and they often appeared on the same cards before becoming separate headliners.

They were even stablemates under Derrick James’s tutelage, another highly-regarded boxing coach based in Texas.

But, you know what? Familiarity can breed contempt. And there is no love lost between Spence and Charlo, who have been at each other’s throats, verbally-speaking at least.

“He’s kinda, I would say jealous of me,” Spence said, in footage captured by KO Sports TV.

“He looked at me like PBC golden boy or something [but] the proof is in the pudding. There’s a reason why he hasn’t had a fight. And I can say I want a fight, and I have a fight tomorrow … he ain’t got any fans. Where can Jermell fight at.”

“He mad at me. We might handle that in the future.”

Errol Spence seems to line up a fight against Jermell Charlo if and when he handles business against Tim Tszyu in the Australian’s hometown on July 25 atop a PBC on Prime Video PPV.
