The undefeated IBF world welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr is currently training for his first title defence against Lamont Peterson. That fight takes place on January 20th at the Barclays Arena in Brooklyn, New York.
Spence has been vocal several times about his goal to become the undisputed welterweight champion.
However, the WBC and WBA welterweight world champion, Keith Thurman has suggested that the match-up needs time to marinate and build in profile.
Thurman recently suggested that the potential clash doesn’t look likely to happen before 2019.
“It’s up to them. It takes two. If they don’t want to fight, you can’t make them fight,” ‘The Truth’ began by explaining.
Errol Spence has vowed to ignore the critics and keep recording victories in the same devastating fashion that he has been.
“I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and keep fighting other guys who are willing to step up, like Lamont,” Spence told BoxingScene.com.
“I don’t really care [about what Thurman says]. It is what it is.”
Spence did remind Thurman that people will eventually clock on to his lack of interest in taking him on.
Furthermore, he reminded ‘One Time’ that he is not the golden goose of the division like Floyd Mayweather Jr, where fighters make exceptions and admissions to make a lucrative fight happen.
“It’s not like he’s a Floyd Mayweather where I need to fight him or he’s the big money fight,” Spence added.
“There are still other fighters out there. I’m just going to keep doing me, keep winning, keep adding to my legacy – and the people know the truth.”
“They who’s willing to fight whoever. If he’s not willing to fight me until 2019 or 2020, that’s on him – I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing;” Spence concluded.
