Errol Spence Jr looking to be more active in 2018

IBF world welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr came face to face with his January opponent yesterday at their opening press conference.

Spence will be looking to make the first defence of the title against fellow U.S native and former champion, Lamont Peterson.

Spence won the IBF title after travelling to the former champion, Kell Brook’s hometown of Sheffield, U.K.

‘The Truth’ overran Brook’s work rate in the second half of their meeting and broke down the Briton eventually stopping him in the 9th round.

Spence has since endured a frustrating period of inactivity, given he hasn’t been in the ring since that fight in May of last year.

Furthermore, Spence shared at the press conference he intends to pressure his advisor, PBC mogul Al Haymon into scheduling the bare minimum of three fights in 2018.

“I think I could’ve came back sooner, but I mean, timing is everything,” Spence said following a press conference Wednesday to officially announce his fight against Peterson.

“I feel like the timing is right. I’m supposed to be fighting three times next year, so it’ll be a lot more active year next year.”

Additionally, Spence stressed the need to stay active in the sport. Spence cited a fighter’s timing will improve when that fighter is fresh.

“It’s important for your timing and just staying fresh in the ring,” Spence added.

Spence also shared that he wants to showcase his talents a lot more next year. “I just wanna stay in the eyes of the people and let them see me a lot more. Fight a lot more so they can see me on a consistent basis;” Spence concluded.
