The reigning, undefeated world IBF welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr makes the first defence of his title in eleven days. That defence will take place against Lamont Peterson at the Barclays Center in New York.
Errol Spence won that title after overrunning the former champion Kell Brook’s work rate over the second half of their clash in Sheffield in May 2017.
On Monday, Spence caught up with Sky Sports and the topic was, what are ‘The Truth’s goals and aspirations moving forwards and what that is, is indeed what several stellar fighters are looking to accomplish. That is to be the standout fighter in the sport.
Multiple different boxing platforms have placed differing fighters atop of their pound-for-pound rankings. Terence Crawford currently sits in the top position on the BoxingScene rankings, ESPN ranks Vasyl Lomachenko as the best fighter.
Furthermore, the RING magazine ranks undefeated middleweight divisional kingpin, Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin as their current number one.

There is a fragmented picture as to who is actually number one right now, however, Spence voiced his intention that he wants to become the standout fighter in the sport.
“Everyone wants to be that No. 1 guy in boxing, not just in their weight division, or even their country,” Spence said.
Errol Spence says the vacancy for the number one position is vacant at this moment following the retirements of multiple world title holders, American natives Floyd Mayweather and Andre Ward.
“With Floyd Mayweather and Andre Ward gone, that just leaves it wide open to see who is the best fighter in the world.”
Spence highlighted 2-weight world champions, Crawford and Lomachenko as potential adversaries to that title too.
“I think that’s what we’re all fighting for. That’s what Terence Crawford, that’s what [Vasyl] Lomachenko are fighting for.”
“That is what I am after. Expect a damn good performance from me [January 20],” Spence concluded.
