Chris Eubank Jr. will go to his lowest weight to date as a pro when he meets Conor Benn — but he will do so in front of a sold-out crowd.
The sons of British legends Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn will vie to protect the family legacy on October 8.
The O2 Arena in London will play host to the catchweight clash, set at 157 pounds, and it will be streamed exclusively live on DAZN worldwide and DAZN Pay-Per-View in the UK and Ireland.
The price point for the pay-per-view offering has yet to be revealed by the broadcaster, but the prices of the tickets to witness the fight live weren’t enough to stop the event from selling out in record time.
Considering the prices – £1,250 for VIP, £500 for ringside and £40 for a cheap seat, with other offerings in between – this is quite something, with reports suggesting it took only 47 minutes for the whole allocation to be snapped up by the public wanting to see the reignition of a duel that has laid dormant for 29 years — minus a day.
Frank Smith, the CEO of Matchroom Boxing whose girlfriend is Eubank Jr’s sister and who promotes Benn alongside Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, said last week that the fight could have been even bigger.
“We knew it was big.
“It probably could have sold out a stadium and it was a shame because of the time of the year that it’s just a little bit late in the year in terms of weather, but we probably could have gone somewhere bigger.
“Maybe in the future, there will be a few more of these down the line. Maybe we can do two or three.”
It was in 1990 and again in 1993 that Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn fought two brutal world title fights.
Eubank Sr. won the first one via ninth-round stoppage, picking up the WBO middleweight title in the process, but the second fight, which took place at super-middleweight at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, ended in a draw.
