Chris Eubank Jr is stepping back into the ring this Saturday in Germany and takes on Avni Yildirim in the World Boxing Super Series tournament.
For the IBO World super middleweight champion, the target is to exit Stuttgart with a win and eventually take home the Muhammad Ali trophy. It’s an achievement that would definitely catapult Eubank Jr’s boxing career upwards but the Brighton boxer has other plans in his mind as well alongside boxing.
Mixed Martial Arts.
Some fighters, such as Tony Bellew, have been talking about competing in MMA if the money is anywhere near boxing figures. You can now add Eubank Jr to that list of fighters.
“If the money is there, I will entertain the thought of transferring over to MMA. But, like I said before, you’d have to pay me a lot because, financially, I’m in a very secure position in the boxing world. So it will have to take a lot to pull me out of that position to MMA fight – but anything’s possible,” he said to The Sun.
But make no mistake about it, Eubank is keeping his eyes on the prize and that is the Muhammad Ali trophy.
“I’m going in there to dominate these guys and prove to them that I’m the number one middleweight in the world, take this world title, take this Muhammad Ali trophy. That’s my current goal and I’m very close to achieving it,” commented the IBO champion.
Eubank’s trip in the Germany has been chaotic, to say the least.
He was no show at his open workout session because of his team and Chris Eubank Senior were worried about safety. Germany, for now, is hostile enemy territory for Eubank Jr who will get booed by a massive Turkish crowd on Saturday night.
And of course, there was the infamous incident at the press conference on Wednesday, where Yildirim’s manager, Ahmet Oner, tried to assault Eubank’s teammate over ‘racist comments’.
In case you missed it, here’s the video.
