A potential undisputed heavyweight world title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is one of the most discussed match ups in the sport – despite the fact fans remain in the dark on whether or not it will actually happen.
Fury is a favourite in the eyes of the majority of pundits as well as the bookmakers, though the consensus is that Usyk could well prove to be his hardest fight stylistically.
However, heavyweight legend Evander Holyfield appeared very confident that Fury will overcome the Ukrainian, should the historic fight materialise towards the end of this year.
When asked could Usyk beat Fury, Holyfield resolutely told Boxing Social that the WBC champion would come out on top as he’s the only one that’s been able to make adjustments.
“No! I think Tyson Fury has shown that he is a great fighter. Out of all the fighters, he’s the one that has been able to make adjustments, and making adjustments makes you better.
The fact of the matter is, ain’t nobody has beat him! I don’t know [how Usyk could beat Fury]. Ain’t nobody did it and, until somebody does it, who’s to say anybody can? If nobody has beat you, then you ain’t shown you can lose.”
Holyfield was one of the last fighters to hold the accolade of undisputed heavyweight champion, so it would take a brave man to argue with his assessment.
Fury vs Usyk appeared to have been agreed earlier this year, however talks between the two camps publicly collapsed, with some observers laying blame at the door of ‘The Gypsy King’ for making too many demands, whilst others say Usyk was waiting for a Saudi Arabia payday.
However, the mammoth four belt unification looks to potentially be back on due to the heavy investment on offer from Saudi, and could even land on the same bill as Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder.
