Hall of Fame fighter turned pundit, Barry McGuigan, is in no doubt who comes out victorious in a fantasy fight between Tyson Fury and Lennox Lewis.
Lewis is down in history as one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time. With just two defeats to Hasim Rahman and Oliver McCall, both of which were avenged later in his career, ‘The Lion’ boasts an incredible record of 41 wins from 44 fights with 32 knockouts along the way.
He competed in one of the toughest era’s of the blue-ribbon division and secured victories against the likes of Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Vitali Klitschko.
Most would argue that Fury is the current top heavyweight on the planet, having never tasted defeat and, like Lewis, has beaten every man he’s ever faced.
In two separate social media posts, McGuigan, a former featherweight world champion, made it clear how a prime versus prime fight between the two would have played out.
“I don’t hate anyone but I know Lennox Lewis would have destroyed Fury, compare their resumés there is no comparison, those are the facts.
There is no way that Fury is better than Lennox Lewis, not a chance.
Tyson Fury is not nearly the physical specimen that Lennox Lewis was in his prime, Lennox would beat Fury up and knock him out in the Championship rounds.”
Lewis was the last undisputed heavyweight champion, capturing all the belts in 1999 when he defeated Evander Holyfield by unanimous decision in their rematch.
The two had look set to meet earlier in the year when a 70/30 purse split was agreed over social media, but negotiations collapsed when the Ukrainian’s team withdrew believing they weren’t getting a fair deal.
Recent attention has turned to a potential mega card in Saudi Arabia this December – which would see Fury take on Usyk as well as Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder on the same night.
