Errol Spence has around a month to decide whether or not he wants to activate a contractual rematch clause and have another shot at Terence Crawford.
Crawford dominated Spence at the T-Mobile Arena this past weekend, scoring a ninth round stoppage to be crowned the undisputed welterweight champion of the world.
Amir Khan, another man who fell victim to a stoppage loss at the hands of Crawford, thinks that it would not be a particularly wise decision for Spence to jump back in with ‘Bud.’
Speaking on TNT Sports, Khan stated he believes that Spence could “get knocked out quite badly” if he does decide to trigger the rematch clause.
“In the heat of the moment, you’re going to say, ‘Yeah I’ll take the rematch straight away.’ But to be honest with you, I don’t think it will do him any good. I think he would get beat even worse than he did today – he might get knocked out quite badly.”
“There was talk that he was having trouble making weight, so maybe he should move up a weight. There’s still a lot of big names out there who I think Spence would beat. But I just think Crawford has his style.”
Spence has admitted he would prefer a potential rematch to take place at 154lbs, though the ball now rests firmly in Crawford’s court.
A second fight between the pair could prove to be a difficult sell however, such was Crawford’s dominance in Las Vegas.
If a rematch does not materialise, fights with the likes of Jason Ennis and Jermell Charlo have been touted for the pound for pound king from Nebraska.
