In a recent interview with @BoxNation_TV, renowned promoter Frank Warren shared key information about Hamzah Sheeraz’s future. Warren revealed that earlier this year, the young British boxer was offered the opportunity to face Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, one of the biggest names in world boxing. However, the offer was declined, with Warren arguing that it wasn’t the right time yet for Sheeraz to take such a big step.
According to Frank Warren’s statements, the offer was quite tempting financially.
“We were offered the Canelo fight early this year, but I said no, not yet. It was really good money. An offer was made,” Warren said, who has strategically managed Sheeraz’s career so far.
Hamzah Sheeraz’s current record is impressive, with 21 wins, 0 losses, and 0 draws. At 24 years old, the young Brit remains undefeated after a total of 21 fights. His most recent bout took place on September 21, 2024, in London, where he faced tough contender Tyler Denny. Sheeraz won decisively, defeating Denny by technical knockout in the second round, solidifying his reputation as a promising contender in the middleweight division.
On the other hand, Mexican star Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez continues to be one of the biggest names in world boxing. With a record of 61 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws, Canelo has knocked out 39 of his opponents, giving him an impressive knockout ratio of 64%. Despite his two losses, Álvarez has never been knocked out, highlighting his resilience in the ring.
Canelo’s most recent fight took place on September 14, 2024, in Las Vegas, USA. On that occasion, Álvarez faced rising contender Edgar Berlanga in a 12-round fight. Canelo won by unanimous decision, reaffirming his dominance in the super middleweight division and maintaining his status as one of the most feared and respected boxers in the world.
The offer for Sheeraz to face Canelo highlights the confidence some have in the young Brit, but Warren made it clear that his plan is more gradual. Although Sheeraz has shown great talent and power, Frank Warren considered that facing a boxer of Canelo’s caliber would be premature at this stage of his career.
Despite declining the offer, Warren did not rule out the possibility of this matchup happening in the future.
