The much anticipated 5 v 5 boxing event between Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn’s respective stables has suffered a slight delay but has now received a big update.
For many years there was a so-called cold war between the UK’s two biggest promotional outfits. Warren’s Queensbury and Hearn’s Matchroom both operated independently and exclusively of one another.
Fighters from either camp would rarely come up against each other despite the fact that there were plenty of mouth-watering potential contests to be made.
But the financial clout and influences of the Saudi Arabians has changed all that and there has been something of a thawing in relationships.
This has started with boxers from both camps appearing on the same recent cards such as Anthony Joshua against Francis Ngannou and the Day of Reckoning card back in December which had the likes of Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
Now, this summer, we are set to see five fights that pit competing promotional representatives against one another. Speaking to Queensbury YouTube channel after the Joshua versus Ngannou fight, Warren has now given a big update on where things are at.
“It’s going to happen. We hope to get the weights sorted before we go home. Once we’ve got the weights we can determine the fighters. We’re strong in all divisions so I haven’t got a problem.
“We’ll be sensible, they have their roster, we have our rosters, and once the weights are determined we will see who will be in the fights. No ringers will be allowed and I’m very confident in our boxers, we’ve built a good strong string of fighters.”
It seems fans won’t have to wait long to find out just who will be facing who.
