Queensberry Promoter, Frank Warren, has mocked Anthony Joshua and his team after they decided to bypass Tyson Fury’s callout and stick to their original plan instead.
According to Warren, Fury offered his long time British rival a 60/40 split for a fight this September at Wembley Stadium.
However, the two-time heavyweight champion has other plans as he gears up to face Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia at the end of the year after a fight in August.
In an interview with iFL TV, Warren questioned who else Joshua could face and joked that Eddie Hearn would be ‘scouring the old cemeteries’ for an opponent.
“If they [Wilder and Ruiz] weren’t available and Joshua is now the number one [contender], is he going to turn down the fight? If he doesn’t turn down the fight, we will go to purse bids and you know what he’ll get? Twenty percent of the purse bid, rather than the forty-percent [that he has been offered].”
“What’s he going to do in August? Who is he going to fight in August? Is he going to fight [Filip] Hrgovic? Of course he’s not going to fight Hrgovic, which would be an easy fight anyway. They’re going to go and find somebody, they’re probably scouring the old cemeteries at the moment, looking for someone for him to fight to keep him alive.”
The clear frontrunner for that summer fight is a rematch against Dillian Whyte, whom AJ has history with dating back to their days as amateurs.
Hearn has made an offer to the ‘Body Snatcher’ for August 12 in the United Kingdom, with the O2 arena booked but the possibility of a stadium not being ruled out.
As of writing, Fury is still without an opponent for a September bout.
