Frank Warren has provided a list of Tyson Fury’s next three fights – with no mention of Anthony Joshua in sight.
Speaking on Talksport, Warren stated that an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk and then a meeting with Queensberry stablemate Joe Joyce are more likely to be in the offing if Fury comes through his December clash with Derek Chisora.
“Provided there’s no hiccups, if Tyson comes through December 3rd [against Derek Chisora] then he’s going to fight Usyk and then he may end up fighting Joe Joyce.”
Warren’s comments will perhaps come as a blow to British fans, who were let down once again after talks for a mammoth all-British fight between Fury and Joshua collapsed, with both teams now laying blame at each other’s door.
The breakdown of talks has led Queensberry boss Warren to seriously doubt whether the historic fight will ever get made.
“I honestly believed it was going to happen, but Tyson kept saying to me, ‘they are not going to do this’ and he was right at the end of the day.
AJ’s got to come back and have a couple of fights first – and he’s got to win those fights. I think he’s very vulnerable. I’m not being disrespectful, but I think he’s a very beatable fighter.”
With Fury vs Chisora officially announced today, fans will be of the hope that the underwhelming contest will serve as a tune up for Fury before an undisputed fight with Usyk in 2023.
Warren’s comments that we may never see the Joshua fight are concerning, as the boxing public will struggle to accept the biggest British fight of all time never materialising.
