Frank Warren has weighed in on he biggest fights the heavyweight division can offer.
Following broken down negotiations with Anthony Joshua, WBC Champion Tyson Fury is set to face Oleksandr Usyk to crown an undisputed champion in the division for the first time in two decades.
Despite the magnitude of the UK versus Ukraine fight, talk still lingers around a domestic clash with Joshua, who has lost to Usyk twice.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, Fury’s promoter, Warren, said that the Usyk fight was bigger internationally.
“I think as far as the world of boxing’s concerned it’s Usyk. As a boxing fan I think it’s, again, Usyk. But as Brits, I suppose we’d all like to [see the AJ fight]. Including myself, I’d like to prove right that I think Tyson’s a better fighter than AJ.”
“I’ve got to be honest, I’d have preferred that AJ be in the opposite corner rather than Derek Chisora but we got to where we got to.”
“The Usyk fight is the better fight because Usyk’s beaten him [AJ] twice.”
Regardless of what fight’s bigger, Warren said that the Joshua fight was dead in the water now, claiming that Fury is annoyed by past negotiations.
“As far as AJ’s concerned, [Tyson’s] been very pee’d off because over the years this has been it’s on, it’s off, it’s on. And in the meantime, AJ’s value has diminished. He’s been beaten. He’s been beaten three times in his last five fights.”
An announcement for the undisputed fight between Fury and Usyk is expected after Christmas, perhaps in the first week of January, with a March 4 date targeted and location yet to be decided.
